How Jan Tana Sunless spray tan works

Dihydroxyacetone (DHA) is a colourless chemical that interacts with the dead cells located in the stratum corneum of the epidermis. The DHA causes a chemical reaction with the amino acids on the outermost layer of the skin. This chemical reaction takes 4 to 8 hours to become noticeable and lasts 5 to 8 days from time of application.

Every day, millions of dead skin cells are sloughed off or worn away on the surface of the skin. In fact, every 35 to 45 days, you have an entirely new epidermis. This is why tans from sunless – or self-tanning lotions will gradually fade – as the dead cells are worn away, so is your tan.

What to expect when you arrive for a sunless spray tan?

When you book you will receive pre-tanning preparation instructions.

At the beauty salon, a trained Jan Tana Agent or Beauty Therapist will spray a thin layer of tanning solution evenly onto your body with a small airbrush spray tan machine.

You may stand in a costume, old underwear, disposable G-string or naked. Because of the low pressure, the equipment will not cause injury to eyes and ears. Sunless Tan dries almost instantly, and you will be able to get dressed as soon as the spraying is complete.

You will receive post tanning instructions which includes no bathing / showering / swimming for at least 6 to 8 hours.  The tan will appear darker as it develops, but once you shower, the perfect tan will be visible.

You can maintain your own tan with the Sunless Tan self-application bottle.  Easy home application will keep you glowing.  The self-application bottle can last up to 5 full body applications.

Jan Tana Agents may determine what they want to charge.  Jan Tana is an imported product of the highest quality with many years of research done for the best natural looking tan, therefore it might appear more expensive than some shelf products manufactured in SA.

The going rate throughout South Africa is anything from R450 per application.

Salons offer specials for group bookings, or if you book a series of tans – ask about their specials.  

We also host Tan Parties at your home, ideal for bachelorette and sweet 16 parties.  Or host a Corporate Tan Party at the office for woman’s day.  Anything is possible. 

Skin Prep, On The Day And After Care

1. Shave or wax a day before you tan.
2. Shower before going for your tan to remove deodorant, perfume and cream.
3. Wear loose fitting clothes and open shoes after your tan. 
4. Allow 15 – 30min for your Salon visit.
5. Wait 5 to 8 hours for the tan to develop before showering.
6. Shower using your hand or soft cloth with soap to wash off excess residue.
7. Pat yourself dry with a dark towel and moisturise.
8. Swimming, sweating and shaving can cause your tan to fade faster.
9. Sunless tan will not stain sheets, towels and clothes and can easily be removed when washed.

How To Apply A Perfect Tan At Home

• BEFORE TANNING: Stand on towel to catch any overspray.
• DIRECTIONS: Spray Sunless Tan on a sponge or tanning mitt, Apply evenly over the whole body. Repeat for desired color tone.
• DO NOT :  apply deodorant or lotion before applying Sunless Tan.
